A Boeing 737 plane destined for use by a Chinese airline returned to the manufacturer’s U.S. headquarters on Saturday, a victim of tariffs launched by President Trump in his global trade offensive. according to a Reuters,

The plane, which was painted in the Xiamen livery, landed back at Boeing Field after an 8,000-km journey that included refueling in Guam and Hawaii. It was undergoing final preparations at Boeing’s Zhoushan facility in China before a trade dispute disrupted its delivery.

It’s unclear whether Boeing or Xiamen Airlines initiated the jet’s return. Neither company responded to requests for comment.

Trump this month raised basic tariffs on Chinese imports to 145%. In retaliation, China imposed 125% tariffs on U.S. goods. A Chinese company that makes Boeing planes may be tempted to bypass the tariffs, given that the new 737 MAX has a market value of about $55 billion, according to IBA, an aviation consultancy.

The reversal marks another setback for Boeing 737’s best-selling model, which has faced years of challenges
